Quick start guide: Pitching, setup, and safety
Prepare for in-person fundraising opportunities with these tips.
Running an in-person fundraiser at a store, event, or high-traffic location?
Use this guide to set up quickly, pitch confidently, and stay safe while representing your team and cause.
Setup
- Stand near store exits, not entrances
- Make sure customers can see you
- Don’t block foot traffic or doorways
- Hold signs at chest level — readable, but not in the way
The Perfect Pitch
- Step forward toward customers with confidence
- Keep it short:
- “Hi! Would you like to support our team and help us plant trees? $20 does both!”
- Make eye contact
- Smile — your enthusiasm matters!
- When someone says no:
- If they say "no cash" → "No problem! We only accept credit or Apple Pay and Google Pay."
- Always end with → "Thanks anyway, have a great day!"
Safety Essentials
- Jamboree is cashless for your safety
- If someone offers cash:
- "We’re cashless for safety, but you can support us by card or mobile pay if that works!"
- Chaperones must always:
- Keep participants in sight at all times
- Track all transactions as they happen (via app or log sheet)
Remember!
- Stay positive — not everyone will buy, and that's okay!
- Don't judge by appearance — anyone could be your next supporter
- Be polite to store staff — they're helping you succeed
- Never be pushy — you're representing your team and community
