How to write a simple, inspiring fundraiser story

A clear and thoughtful message leads to fundraising success.

Why do people support causes? Because they connect with the story — why you're fundraising and what their support will help you accomplish.

Your fundraising story is vital to a successful fundraiser. But how do you communicate your organization's needs in an interesting and meaningful way?

Be clear

People want to know quickly what you're fundraising for and how they can help. Make it easy for them to figure it out!

Clearly communicate your organization's needs. Showcase specific details to make your goals and needs feel more real to your supporters.

For example: "Our baseball team is raising $5,000 to attend the largest tournament of the year in Omaha in July."

Clearly ask for what you want your supporters to do: "Please support our team with a $20 purchase!"

Bring your heart

Don't be afraid to show your emotions! Supporters want to feel your excitement and enthusiasm, which will encourage them to back you even more.

In your story, that could look like: "Our team has spent hundreds of hours practicing, and they can't wait to take the next step in Omaha!"

The more personal you make your story, the better it'll connect with supporters.

Keep it short

People want to know about you and your fundraiser, but you don't have much time to tell them. When writing your story, try to keep it to 1-2 paragraphs at the most.

Focus on the most important details: Goals, needs, and personal connection.

Show, don't tell

Include photos and videos if you have them. Writing about your baseball team's fundraiser is important, but a video of your team slugging home runs brings a whole new angle!

Your supporters want a clear and heartfelt message about what they're supporting. Be honest and thoughtful in your story, and you're on your way to fundraising success!
